The vision for the Tilt website had always included a number of features: products, membership/recurring billing, project sign-up and payment, etc. The first version of the site was built in ExpressionEngine without the payment features, but after using it for awhile, it became clear that ExpressionEngine wasn’t the right platform to build the remaining features.

I decided to rebuild the website on Rails using a custom CMS. This turned out to be the easiest way to accommodate features such as access-control over pages and products. The new site can now handle recurring billing for memberships, training registrations and payments, project initiations and payments, product ordering, events, files, and a blog.
